Psychotherapist in Shepherds Bush

I am a fully qualified (PGDipPsych) and registered (MBACP) integrative psychotherapist, working in Shepherds Bush, London.

At the Modern Psychotherapist Shepherds Bush, I offer one-to-one therapy sessions in a safe and welcoming environment. Collaboratively we will look at, and work through, emotional, psychological and behavioural patterns that could be limiting your potential and causing you distress.

To do so effectively, we will work at a pace you are comfortable with, first taking a look at your concerns and reasons for choosing therapy. This will allow us to hone in on your needs and goals to explore in the following sessions.

During our sessions at Modern Psychotherapist Shepherds Bush, I can help with a number of mental health issues by using various psychotherapeutic approaches and will often tailor my approach to be client-centric and focused around your needs and experiences.

Will Psychotherapy Work For Me?

There is a large number of scientific studies and research papers highlighting the advantages to people of all genders and ages really engaging in the process of therapy. Effective psychotherapy can equip us with the tools needed to face challenges head on whilst also altering thought patterns and changing how we see ourselves for the better. At Modern Psychotherapist Shepherds Bush we will address challenging issues like:

  • Personal distress, such as anxiety and/or depression.

  • Family related distress.

  • Dealing with complex relationships at home or at work.

  • Addiction.

  • Issues with attachment to social media, phones or screens.

  • Job loss.

  • Phobias.

  • Panic attacks.

  • Sexuality or sexual identity.

  • Loss and grief.

  • Coping with health issues.

  • Low self-confidence and low self-esteem.

Will Therapy Benefit Me?

At the Modern Psychotherapist Shepherds Bush, I have a wealth of experience in helping clients with a broad spectrum of concerns and distress.

Although therapy is not curative, it has a big part to play in helping us understand our barriers and how to manage them, and making better choices going forward. I will help you to explore your past, offering new perspectives without judgement and in doing so address areas of your life that you have been frightened to explore.

What's the Difference Between Counselling and Psychotherapy?

There are a few differences between the two, even if the terms are used interchangeably and both can help you work through issues. For one, counselling tends to focus on short-term care whereas psychotherapy takes place over a longer period of time. Counselling also zeroes in on one issue instead of using a more in-depth approach like in psychotherapy where we delve deeper into the root causes of your symptoms. Undertaking psychotherapy sessions can go a long way in uncovering your past and improving your relationship with yourself and others.

The Modern Psychotherapist Shepherds Bush, provides short and long term services that will support and guide you as we work through your unique challenges.

FAQs

Are Psychotherapy Sessions Confidential?

Yes. The Modern Psychiatrist Shepherd’s Bush strictly adheres to the BACP Ethical Code, keeping all client information, conversations, and digital data secure and confidential.

Our service contract goes into great detail regarding confidentiality, and I’ll gladly address any of your questions and concerns in our first session.

How Will I Know if the Sessions are Successful?

Psychotherapy aims to help people become more self-assured, self-confident, and self-aware individuals. While evaluating and comparing your mental state between any two moments in time can be challenging, over time you will notice yourself becoming more comfortable and less anxious in previously difficult situations, your overall emotional balance and well-being will increase, and you’ll find it easier to relate to yourself and your loved ones. While you’re bound to notice these positive changes yourself, we’ll also review and discuss these changes to facilitate even further growth and development.

Will I Gain Advice from Therapy Sessions?

Psychotherapy emphasises empowering you to trust your own judgement and decision-making abilities rather than relying solely on advice from others for problem-solving. While I might provide my insights or perspectives on some of your issues, my overarching goal is to help you develop your own well-informed and confident decisions. This approach not only promotes good mental health but also encourages self-discovery, autonomy, and empowerment.

Remember, psychotherapy aims to build and develop inner strength over a longer period, allowing you to better tackle life's complexities and short-term challenges.

What do Therapy Sessions Look Like?

I offer 50-minute therapy sessions scheduled for the same time and day each week. The consistency of a set schedule offers comfort–a weekly safe space to think about and explore yourself. While there are certain benefits to in-person therapy, I understand that it’s not always practical or possible to make it to my office. In order to accommodate those with trouble commuting, I also offer online psychotherapy sessions.

How Long Does Therapy Go on for?

It’s very difficult to predict how long therapy should last, even more so without meeting first. While I usually recommend no fewer than 6 sessions to start with, there are several factors that could extend the need for therapy. Severe or ongoing mental health disorders, substance abuse, and co-existing mental health disorders often take time to fully recover from, while personal factors could either further extend or even reduce the need for therapy.

As we meet and get to know each other, I’ll be in a much better position to provide an accurate and reliable timeline for recovery.

Do I Need to Prepare For a Therapy Appointment?

You don’t need to prepare for your therapy appointment. Although some clients feel that they get more from their sessions by making notes of their thoughts or talking points, that is an entirely personal choice and not mandatory. Your therapy space is yours to explore, and I encourage you to express yourself in whatever way feels most natural to you. Do you serve other areas?

Yes, we serve the following areas: Notting Hill, Kensington, Chelsea, Kensal Rise, Bayswater and Queen’s Park.
