Psychotherapist in Kensal Rise
Anthony Mellor is a fully qualified (PGDipPsych) and registered (MBACP) integrative psychotherapist, working in Kensal Green, London.
Welcome to the Modern Psychotherapist in Kensal Green, where I provide a nurturing and supportive space for one-on-one therapeutic sessions. My goal is to assist you in overcoming emotional, psychological, and practical challenges that may be hindering your personal growth, well-being, and quality of life.
I fully understand and appreciate that psychiatric therapy is a deeply personal experience. To help ease any fears or apprehensions about therapy, our initial meeting will largely focus on giving you a clear understanding of what to expect while at the same time giving me the information I need to plan and design your uniquely tailored treatment plan.
My approach to psychotherapy is integrative and client-centred, meaning I employ a range of psychiatric modalities and techniques to uncover and address any mental health concerns while working at a manageable pace.
Will Psychotherapy Work For Me?
The benefits of psychotherapy have been independently proven time and time again, and it has become an accepted and standardised feature of modern Western medical practice. While different approaches to psychotherapy can yield different results and are used to treat a wide range of psychiatric problems and disorders, there is no doubt that professional psychotherapy can be incredibly effective at dealing with issues such as:
Personal distress, such as anxiety and/or depression
Family-related distress
Dealing with complex relationships at home or at work
Addiction
Issues with attachment to social media, phones or screens.
Job loss
Phobias
Panic attacks
Sexuality or sexual identity
Loss and grief
Coping with health issues
Low self-confidence and low self-esteem
Will Therapy Benefit Me?
Years of offering psychotherapy services in Kensal Green have shown time and time again that personalised and integrative therapy can hugely benefit my clients. It allows them to uncover and understand deep-seated fears, traumas, and mental health disorders that affect their ability to live happy and fulfilling lives, then work towards developing personal strategies to identify and manage triggers and stressors.
By building resilience and the ability to handle the inevitable stresses of life within a structured and non-judgmental environment, my clients learn how to react more positively to people, environments, and social situations, dramatically improving their outlook and quality of life.
What's the Difference Between Counselling and Psychotherapy?
Counselling and psychotherapy, though there is some overlap and the terms are often used interchangeably, are two separate practices. We tend to think of counselling in the short term, focusing on immediate problems and solutions. Psychotherapy, on the other hand, is applied over an extended period to address long-term mental health problems or disorders. Therapy is a gradual process of developing increased self-awareness, resilience, and a sense of control over one’s thoughts, behaviours, life, health, and happiness.
The Modern Psychotherapist Kensal Green provides both counselling to deal with an immediate problem, as well as psychotherapy to help overcome the barriers to happiness.

Contacting a psychotherapist can be an intimidating task. If, however, you feel that you could benefit from professional psychiatric services, please don’t hesitate to reach out for a non-judgmental and obligation-free conversation.
FAQs
Are Psychotherapy Sessions Confidential?
At the Modern Psychotherapist Kensal Rise, we hold client confidentiality in the highest regard. Adhering to the BACP Ethical Code, we ensure that all sessions are personal and that all client data is securely stored.
While confidentiality is explicitly dealt with in our contract, I’m also ready to discuss any questions or concerns in our initial session.
How Will I Know if the Sessions are Successful?
Evaluating how successful your therapy is involves both introspection and ongoing communication with your therapist. Since psychotherapy is generally considered to be a medium to long-term undertaking that makes incremental progress, it can be difficult to gauge the progress made in any single session. However, as we progress, you should start seeing improvements in your overall mental well-being as you develop strategies for dealing with stressors and triggers, improve your confidence, and see an improvement in how you relate to yourself and others.
Will I Gain Advice from Therapy Sessions?
While specific pieces of advice or solutions to your immediate problems and dilemmas are likely to come up and be discussed during our sessions, psychotherapy isn’t a place you come to for direct advice. Instead, our focus will be on helping you manage and recover from conditions that make it difficult to find or evaluate advice or solutions, enabling you to formulate your own and judge their effectiveness with confidence. Being able to tackle life’s complexities with a sense of self-assuredness is a hallmark of good mental health, and this is what we’ll work towards.
What do Therapy Sessions Look Like?
I offer one-on-one psychotherapy sessions that last for fifty minutes. Your sessions will be scheduled for the same time and day each week to provide a sense of consistency and comfort in the form of a weekly safe space for personal development. Although face-to-face sessions have their advantages, I understand that for many it might be difficult to travel to and from my office every week. In an effort to make therapy more accessible to all, I also offer online therapy to those who cannot make the commute.
How Long Does Therapy Go on for?
Therapy is deeply personal and fluid. This means that each individual responds to it at their own pace, and that there is no fixed timeline for how long therapy lasts. Some clients see a rapid improvement in their mental state and overall well-being, while others require a longer journey towards a full recovery. As a general guideline, I typically recommend a minimum of 6 therapy sessions; however, this is flexible and open to discussion based on your needs. It’s also important to note that some clients choose to continue their therapy indefinitely. as they feel that a regularly scheduled space to discuss their needs and problems provides an ongoing sense of security and comfort.
Do I Need to Prepare For a Therapy Appointment?
The Modern Psychoterapist Kensal Rise does not require any sort of preparation for therapy sessions. While some clients choose to prepare notes on key points they would like to discuss, this is completely optional. The sessions and space are yours, so I encourage you to use our time together in a way that best suits your needs.
