During your sessions at Modern Psychotherapist Kensington, I can help you address a range of mental health issues using a variety of different psychotherapeutic approaches. I focus on my client's goals and needs, putting them at the centre of the process, and tailoring my approach to suit their individual needs..

Will Psychotherapy Be Effective For Me?

There is a wealth of scientific studies and research evidence which demonstrates that psychotherapy benefits those who engage with the process. These benefits were seen regardless of age or gender. Effective Psychotherapy by a trained specialist helps change your thought patterns and the way you look at yourself, leading you to become more confident. Psychotherapy can help create coping mechanisms that allow you to confront new challenges head-on.

Some of the issues that you might want to discuss at Modern Psychotherapist Bayswater include:

  • Personal distress, such as anxiety and/or depression.

  • Family related distress.

  • Dealing with complex relationships at home or at work.

  • Addiction.

  • Issues with attachment to social media, phones or screens.

  • Job loss.

  • Phobias.

  • Panic attacks.

  • Sexuality or sexual identity.

  • Loss and grief.

  • Coping with health issues.

  • Low self-confidence and lack of self-belief.

Will Therapy Benefit Me?

There are many different concerns that we can discuss within therapy. At the Modern Psychotherapist Chelsea, I have a wealth of experience helping clients with a broad spectrum of distress.

Therapy will help you recognise and understand your ways of relating and understanding the world. This, in turn, will allow you to make better choices and better able to manage life's challenges. I will work with you, bearing witness to your life experiences and offering a fresh, non-judgemental perspective. During therapy, we will explore your past and areas in your life that you may not have previously fully addressed. This will help you find meaning in your life, allowing you to process and take back control.

What's the Difference Between Counselling and Psychotherapy?

There are several distinctions between these terminologies, which are often used interchangeably. While both can help you work through challenges in your own life, counselling is more of a short-term solution to a single problem and requires limited training for the counsellor. On the other hand, psychotherapists receive a full academic training and take a more in-depth look at a number of issues over an extended period of time. This space allows you to delve deeper into the root causes of your symptoms, allowing you to understand yourself better, and develop and adapt your relationships, improving your quality of life.

The Modern Psychotherapist Kensington, provides short and long-term services which will support and guide you as we work through your unique challenges.

FAQs

Are Psychotherapy Sessions Confidential?

All psychotherapy services at the Modern Psychotherapist are fully private and confidential. You can rest assured knowing that the BACP Ethical Code covers your therapy and that all client data is stored securely.

Issues surrounding confidentiality are specifically dealt with in our contract, and I’ll gladly address any of your questions or concerns during our first meeting.

How Will I Know if the Sessions are Successful?

Determining the success of therapy sessions involves a combination of self-reflection and dialogue with your therapist. It’s important to remember that successful therapy is about more than simply resolving specific issues and is heavily dependent on personal growth and improved coping skills. You might notice changes in your thought patterns, feelings, emotions, and ability to deal with stressors or triggers. These all indicate positive changes that lead to a healthier, happier you.

Will I Gain Advice from Therapy Sessions?

In psychotherapy, the focus is less on receiving direct advice for solving problems but instead to aim towards enabling the client to trust their reasoning, instincts, and decision-making processes. While I might offer input into specific problems or dilemmas during therapy, my goal is to enable you to make sound decisions with confidence. This is an important component of good mental health and fosters self-discovery, independence, and personal empowerment.

What do Therapy Sessions Look Like?

At the Modern Psychotherapist Kensington, I offer one-on-one therapy sessions typically lasting for around 50 minutes. The sessions are scheduled for the same time and same day each week, providing a sense of comfort and consistency. Although in-person therapy sessions have certain advantages, the practicalities of travelling to and from sessions might not fit within everyone’s schedule. I also offer online therapy through digital channels to accommodate those who cannot attend in person.

How Long Does Therapy Go on for?

Providing realistic and reliable timelines for mental health recovery is difficult at best, and all the more so when I haven’t met you. Therapy is deeply personal and individual, with some clients seeing a rapid improvement in mental health in only a handful of sessions, while others see more gradual growth over an extended period of time. In some cases, clients continue to voluntarily continue to receive therapy even after their primary concerns have been fully addressed and resolved. As a very rough guideline, I typically recommend no fewer than 6 sessions, although this might change depending on your unique situation.

Do I Need to Prepare For a Therapy Appointment?

There is no need to prepare for psychotherapy sessions. If you’re worried that you might forget to mention something important, you may write it down if you wish to do so; however, this is completely up to your discretion. Your therapy space is designed to be comfortable and adaptable to your needs and comfort, and I encourage you to use it in a way that best suits your needs.

Do you serve other areas?

Yes, we serve the following areas: Notting Hill, Chelsea, Kensal Rise, Bayswater, Queen’s Park, and Shepherds Bush,
