Psychotherapist in Notting Hill

I am a fully qualified (PGDipPsych) and registered (MBACP) integrative psychotherapist, working in Notting Hill, London.

At the Modern Psychotherapist Notting Hill, I offer one-to-one therapy sessions in a safe and welcoming environment.  Together we will work through emotional, psychological and practical barriers that are preventing you from reaching your full potential.

We will work at your own pace.  In the initial meeting, we will cover any concerns you may have and discuss why you chose to consider therapy at this point in your life. This will allow us to begin to understand your needs and goals, which we can further explore as the sessions progress.

At Modern Psychotherapist Notting Hill, I can help you address a range of mental health issues using a variety of different psychotherapeutic approaches.  My client-centred and integrative outlook will ensure that we chose the method and approach that best fits your aims, needs, experiences and personality.

Will Psychotherapy Work For Me?

There is a large body of scientific and research evidence that demonstrates that attending psychotherapy positively benefits those who are able to engage with the process. These benefits can be seen regardless of age or gender.   The research also demonstrates that therapy can help to change your thought patterns and your understanding of yourself, allowing you to feel more confident and in control of the challenges that a modern lifestyle brings.  Some of the issues that you might want to discuss at Modern Psychotherapist Notting Hill include:

  • Personal distress, such as anxiety and/or depression.

  • Family related distress.

  • Dealing with complex relationships at home or at work.

  • Addiction.

  • Issues with attachment to social media, phones or screens.

  • Job loss.

  • Phobias.

  • Panic attacks.

  • Sexuality or sexual identity.

  • Loss and grief.

  • Coping with health issues.

  • Low self-confidence and low self-esteem.

Will Therapy Benefit Me?

There are many different concerns that we can discuss within therapy. At the Modern Psychotherapist Notting Hill, I have a wealth of experience helping clients with a broad spectrum of concerns and distress.

Therapy is not curative, but it does help to clarify and understand your unique challenges and enable you to make better choices.  I will be a witness to your life experience, and as we work together, I will be able to offer a fresh, non-judgmental perspective. This process will help you explore areas of your life that you might have previously ignored, allowing you to acknowledge and articulate unacknowledged parts of you, and in so doing, integrating and providing meaning.

What's the Difference Between Counselling and Psychotherapy?

While these terms are often used interchangeably, there are some differences. Whilst both help you work through issues you may have in your own life, counselling tends to be a short-term method to address a single concern and involves a bespoke and limited training for the counsellor. Psychotherapy is an in-depth talking therapy that lasts over a more extended period of time and involves a broader, long-term academic training. Psychotherapy is an excellent means to delve deeper into personal issues and concerns, uncovering your past and developing and adapting your relationship to yourself and to others.

The Modern Psychotherapist Notting Hill, provides short and long term services that will support and guide you as we work through your unique challenges.

FAQs

Are Psychotherapy Sessions Confidential?

All of our sessions are private and confidential and subject to the BACP Ethical Code, and data protection.

Confidentiality is specifically dealt with in my contract, and we will discuss this in person at our first session.

How Will I Know if the Sessions are Successful?

Psychotherapy can be a long-term endeavour, and it can be difficult to judge incremental and subtle shifts at any one snapshot in time.  In every session, we will endeavour together to reach a new level of understanding, and as you begin to understand and accept more about yourself, your levels of emotional wellbeing will rise, your relationships will improve, and your professional potential will increase.

This is a collaborative process, and we will regularly review how you are feeling about therapy and discuss what else you might need.

Will I Gain Advice from Therapy Sessions?

Therapy is not like coaching – this is not a space to come to for advice.  In our social relationships, we tend to receive plenty of advice from friends, family and/or the media, and it often has varying degrees of utility.  My role is not to 'rescue' you, but to guide you as you learn more about yourself, and in so doing, helping you find the tools to cope with your own personal challenges.  My approach is collaborative, and I will provide insights and my own perspective on your dilemmas.  However, the most critical element of psychotherapy is learning that you are able to trust your own instincts and to take responsibility for your decisions.

What do Therapy Sessions Look Like?

We will have one-to-one sessions, either in person or online, for fifty minutes, at the same time and on the same day every week.  This means that you know that you will always have a safe space on a weekly basis to think about and explore yourself.  The consistency of therapy is important: it is both comforting and also helps us to learn emotional regulation.

How Long Does Therapy Go on for?

Therapy is a very individual and fluid process, and therefore it is difficult to predict the length of your individual therapeutic journey. How long you might want to be in therapy is entirely up to you, and we can discuss this together, as I see therapy as a collaborative endeavour.  I would recommend a minimum of 6 sessions, and then spending time between us discussing how you feel about the process.

Do I Need to Prepare For a Therapy Appointment?

There is nothing that you need to do to prepare for a session.  Some clients like to make notes to help prepare their thoughts; however, this is not compulsory.  The space is yours, and you are encouraged to use it and thus prepare for it as you wish.

Do you serve other areas?

Yes, we serve the following areas: Kensington, Chelsea, Kensal Rise, Bayswater, Queen’s Park, and Shepherds Bush,
